Heated Car Seat Cushion Review
73My Choice for Heated Car Seat Cushion
Do you long to have a warm seat in your car each winter? In this heated car seat cushion review, we will look at the best that heated cushions for your car have to offer.
Most newer cars in the U.S. have heated seats as a standard option these days. I have always been more than a little envious on those cold January mornings while waiting for the car heater to warm up the car.
But then, a week before Christmas while sitting in the icicle seat, that I had made a big mistake! I should have had a heated car seat cushion on my list this year! Damn, what should I and my frozen caboose do? Go online and search for a good deal on a really fine anti-butt frost device.
Heated Car Seat Cushion Review - What Others Say
I started my search by looking at the average customer review and the numbers of reviews for those top rated heated car seat cushions. I'm of the opinion that if someone had a good enough experience with a product to go back to the website they bought it from and review it, it must be good. The more reviews the more I believe them.
Looking at the customer feed back, it became clear that I needed to pay special attention to how the heated car seat cushion attaches. The cheaper models as you might guess have a cheaper, less secure way of attaching so that the cushion slides around when you get in and out of the car.
It is also preferable to have an adjustable thermostat. Once the seat and the car warm up then you will need to constantly adjust car heat settings, unplug the heated car seat cushion, and any combination of the two. The constant plugging and unplugging can wear out parts quickly.
Heated Car Seat Cushion Review - Features
Next, I started comparing features and price, keeping in mind the two biggest customer gripes. The available features on most heated car seat cushion models are...
- Heat Settings
- Surface Material
- Hand Held Controls
- Dual Power Source capability
Upscale models add in variations of the following:
- Massage
- Lumbar Support
- Bio-Magnet Therapy
Right away I eliminated models with the Bio-Magnet Therapy. Like most guys I carry credit cards and other cards that have magnetic strips on them in my wallet. Those Bio-Magnets are bad news for these cards as they will begin to erase the information stored on them.
Next, I wanted the thing to be comfortable to set on. It should enhance the car's seat and not become unbearable after a hour or so. That means looking at the fabric and cushioning materials. Currently, you have a fabric choice of faux leather, polyester, quilted nylon or velour. Of these, the quilted nylon and velour felt best. Cushioning materials are not specified so there is no way to compare other than feel.
Lumbar support is a good idea if you make long trips and suffer from back pain. Massage is another good idea if you spend extended amounts of time in your car. Otherwise both features are not really necessary.
Heated Car Seat Cushion Review - My Choice
After weighing all my options and feeling several models at a local retail store I made my choice. I went with the Wagan IN9738-5 Heated Car Seat Cushion with the quilted nylon fabric for comfort and durability.
The attachment straps had approximately the same set up so that point of comparison feel out of play very quickly.
While I would have liked to have had the massage feature, it didn't seem to be available without the bio-magnets or a stiff up charge. So being the frugal person that I am I went for comfort and control at a good price.
That was my choice and how I made it. Now its up to you to make yours. Think about what matters most to you and compare that idea to what's available. Enjoy your heated car seat cushion this winter!
